At Fraser Masood, we are committed to transparency, clarity and fairness in relation to our fees. We understand that facing a criminal investigation or prosecution is stressful, and we aim to ensure that you are fully informed about costs from the outset.
All fees quoted below are exclusive of VAT, unless stated otherwise. VAT is charged at the prevailing rate.
Pre-Charge Engagement
Fixed Fee Pre-Charge Advice
We offer a fixed fee pre-charge engagement service, designed to provide clarity and certainty at the earliest stage of a criminal investigation.
- Fees are calculated in advance, based on:
- The complexity of the allegation
- The seriousness of the offence
- The anticipated time required
- No hidden costs or unexpected charges
- The scope of work covered will be clearly agreed with you in writing before we begin
This service may include advice prior to arrest, voluntary attendance interviews, strategic guidance, and early engagement with the police where appropriate.
Hourly Rate Advice
Where a fixed fee is not suitable, we can act on an hourly rate basis.
Hourly rate work may include ongoing legal advice, case analysis, written representations and liaison with third parties. You will be advised in advance if hourly billing is considered appropriate.
Private Representation at the Police Station
Fixed Fee: £1,200 + VAT
This fee includes:
- Travel to and from the police station or interview venue (within one hour travelling distance of our offices)
- Any associated disbursements
- Attendance for the entirety of the interview process, including:
- Disclosure
- Consultation
- Representation during interview
Additional travel:
If attendance is required at a venue involving more than one hour’s travel in one direction, travel time will be charged at £100 + VAT per hour.
Representation at the Magistrates’ Court
First Hearing – Guilty Plea and Mitigation
£1,200 + VAT
Not Guilty Plea and Trial (Magistrates’ Court)
£3,000 + VAT
Any Additional Hearing (Magistrates’ Court)
£1,200 + VAT
These fees include:
- Travel to and from court (within one hour travelling distance of our offices)
- Any associated disbursements
- Preparation, legal advice and attendance at court
- Advocacy on your behalf
Additional travel:
Where attendance is required at a court located more than one hour’s travel in one direction, travel time will be charged at £100 + VAT per hour.
Crown Court Matters
Crown Court cases are dealt with on a fixed fee basis, calculated according to:
- The seriousness and complexity of the case
- The number of defendants and witnesses
- The anticipated length of proceedings
- The level of preparation required
A clear written fee proposal will be provided at the outset, setting out exactly what is included.
Disbursements
Disbursements are costs payable to third parties, such as expert witnesses or barristers. These are not included unless expressly stated and will always be discussed with you in advance.
Legal Aid
You may be eligible for legal aid depending on the nature of the case and your financial circumstances. We will advise you at the outset as to whether public funding is available and appropriate.
